For over a year now, I’ve been hearing rave reviews about The Tin Angel Cafe. Recently, I decided to join a friend there for lunch, and found out why.
The Tin Angel’s menu is delicious to read, and we were only looking at the sandwiches and salads (in order not to be overwhelmed by the pastas and entrees that will have to be saved for a future dinner trip!) After some debate and consultation with our server, I ordered the vegetarian mushroom baguette, and Jim got the three cheese baguette
Wow. The veggie baguette (with roasted portobello mushrooms and red peppers, goat cheese, and arugula) was a heavenly combination of flavorful, filling, fresh and healthy. It might be the best veggie sandwich I’ve ever tasted. Maybe even the best sandwich, period. I upgraded my side salad to a smaller version of the seasonal house salad, which was well worth it.
After lunch, we ordered bread pudding. Usually, when it comes to bread pudding, I can take it or leave it. The Tin Angel has changed my mind. This was delicious, full of artisan chocolate, brandy, and berry flavors.
The restaurant itself is small and comfortable, with local artists’ work on the walls and a great outdoor patio. It’s located on the southwest corner of Pioneer Park, which seems to be the location for more and more cool stuff these days (the Farmers Market, Bingham Cyclery,Tony Caputo’s, etc), and easily bikeable. There’s often live music, and emphasis on use of local ingredients. The Tin Angel is yet another example of why the eating is good in Salt Lake.
